Calliope Theatre’s English-language Jack and the Beanstalk lit up our auditorium, thrilling students and teachers alike and leaving us eager for an encore next year.
On 4 April, during the final week of term, the Calliope Theatre Company transformed our auditorium into a world of giants and adventure with their sparkling production of Jack and the Beanstalk. Actors Meg Turin, Matthew Lloyd and Mariana Mourato had pupils and teachers alike utterly enthralled—some even hopped on stage to help, all in English, of course!

Thanks to the troupe’s crystal-clear storytelling, lively songs and clever audience participation, every child followed the plot with ease and confidence. Live theatre proved once again to be a powerful language-learning tool: vocabulary springs to life, pronunciation sticks, and shy voices grow bold when a giant’s footsteps rumble.
Judging by the beaming faces and animated playground retellings, this is an experience we’re eager to repeat next year—with a brand-new play, of course! Calliope, we’ll keep a seat warm for you.

Here are some comments from our students:
Dimitri, 1A
A minha parte favorita foi quando o beanstalk cresceu. It was fantastic!

Matilde, 2B
Foi muito divertido! Tinha coisas muito engraçadas e adorei quando a mae do Jack dizia “It’s so sad, it’s so terrible…”

Shuyao, 3B
It was great! My favourite character was the goose because it was cute.

António, 4A
Gostei de tudo! I liked everything! Mas o giant foi muito fixe!
