Spooky corridors in 2ND cycle

2nd Cycle students and teachers

Although many of us think that Halloween is an imported festivity, which isn´t totally wrong, we should look at it as a way that we have absorbed the English language and its culture. Learning a foreign language is also about learning the countries’ culture. This year to celebrate Halloween, our students of 2nd Cycle were challenged to use their imagination and their language skills.

Halloween is a celebration to welcome the harvest at the end of summer, when people would light bonfires and wear costumes.

Year 5 students were given a hat template and year 6 students were given a pumpkin template. The results were fantastic! Students brought the hats and pumpkins to life, giving it a name and features using their language skills.

Ultimately the students were thrilled to see their creativity on display. The corridors were left very colourful and charmingly spooky!

I really liked the pumpkin activity, because it is fun to do different kinds of things in the classroom with the students and teachers. I really enjoyed it because it made us be more creative and it helped us having fun! Thank you so much for giving us this opportunity to have a good time in class.

Maria do Mar Gomes, 6.º A

Teacher Celina, we wanted to thank you for the fantastic idea of organizing a Halloween activity! It was a wonderful experience that allowed us to develop our creativity while learning at the same time.

In this activity, we imagined a Halloween pumpkin character and invented fun details like its name, age, likes, and dislikes. First, we crafted the pumpkin out of paper and decorated it with lots of creativity. Then, we gave it unique features to make it special.

We found the activity very fun because it encouraged us to use our imagination, practice English, and celebrate Halloween in a different and exciting way in class. We were really proud of our final creations!

It was also amazing to see all the pumpkins on display and admire the creativity of our classmates. Thank you for the idea!
